SurgiSmoke Solutions, formerly Nascent Surgical, was founded by Dr. Leonard Schultz, MD a general surgeon and serial entrepreneur from Minnesota.  Dr. Schultz, spent some 30 years inventing products that capture surgical smoke in an effort to preserve the health of the operating room team and prevent post-operative infections in their patients.  He also worked tirelessly to establish and expand state-based mandates for smoke evacuation from surgical facilities.  Dr. Schultz retired in 2025, selling the company to an experienced team of medical device professionals. Thanks to his efforts, SurgiSmoke Solutions products have the highest smoke capture efficiency in the industry for capture of plume for open surgical cases.
